It is perfectly possible to market your business on a shoestring with a little effort and ingenuity, and here are a few ideas to get you started.
Sponsor a community event
Sponsoring a local music event or Little League team, for example, is not actually all that expensive, but it will get your name well and truly out there. The key is to choose events/causes to sponsor that will most appeal to our target market. This is an especially good tip for local businesses, but it can work for national and even international businesses too if you chose the right thing to sponsor.
Focus on features
If you have a tight marketing budget, it often makes sense to think about what your product does better than others. There are literally hundreds of podcasts in every niche imaginable, and they are more popular than ever. If you know a bit about your subject, it’s pretty easy to get onto one or more of them, even some of the big hitters, if you approach the hosts, and doing so is a great way to increase your exposure. Of course, all you need is a decent mic and you could start your own podcast too, but that might take a little longer to pay off!
Plan a stunt
From flashmobs to viral videos, there are lots of stunts you can perform to potentially create a buzz about your products and services without spending a penny, but you will indeed to be creative and think of something that is likely to capture the public’s imagination and go viral, which can be a lot trickier than it sounds.
As you can see, it is perfectly possible to market on a shoestring, so there’s no excuse to not start plugging your small business as much as possible. Put the work in, be creative and it will pay off.
