As David Bowie passed into the next world yesterday, this song, from his album that was just released three days ago on his birthday is hauntingly timely.
David Bowie was an artist whose creativity was legendary. A prolific singer/songwriter, he constantly reinvented himself.
His body of work spans over 50 years and his creativity flowed up through his final days.
So how does this relate to you?
Well, we’re starting off a new year. And there’s much to do. And if you don’t watch out, time will just fly by. And before you know it, you’ll find yourself in March and April and wonder how things have moved so quickly past.
And when that happens, will you look back and say, “I really made progress!” or feel that you lived with passion? Or will it be more like, “I wanted to do something meaningful…but I just got so busy and never got around to that.”
It is very easy to stay busy. But it is hard to make an impact with your body of work if you aren’t putting that first and creating every day.
I personally know how at times it can be difficult to come up with new and creative ideas to write about here. And things I know I should do I get distracted from.
You may find that as well.
But as you think back to those who’ve influenced you. Whether it is music artists, or business or political leaders, or your parents or kids. Whatever and whoever they are, wouldn’t you agree that they don’t inspire you by washing the dishes more often or getting groceries or dusting the house more? It is the meaningful things they do that inspire.
So I challenge you to do the same.
Be that inspiration to your friends, family, coworkers, and future generations.
As Bowie sings, you may be “under pressure” but you still have a lifetime achievement award to win. Make it happen today.
